San Diego Zoo White Rhino IVF Lab Upgrades With pH Monitoring Technology
The San Diego Zoo recently installed TrakStation® pH monitoring as part of their efforts to develop and use assisted reproductive technologies for the conservation and management of wildlife.
With over 90 rhino calves born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, they are the world’s leader in white rhino breeding. As poaching reaches unprecedented levels, a healthy, productive zoo population of white rhinos serves as a safety net against extinction.
Only two northern white rhinos remain in the world. Consistent with the vision to lead the fight against extinction, San Diego Zoo Global has made an organization-wide commitment to rescue the northern white rhino from the brink of extinction. Twelve northern white rhino cell lines as part of the Frozen Zoo® will be used to develop stem cells and create northern white rhino sperm and oocytes for the next generation of embryos.
